Round four of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, from Oakland, CA, is in the books. The racing proved to be exciting in both classes once again, with James Stewart winning the Supercross class Main Event and Broc Tickle taking the top spot in Supercross Lites. Here are a few things I learned from last Saturday's action in Oakland:
1. He Whose Front Tire Washes Out Will Not Win
The last three Supercross races have been decided by someone losing their front end and laying the bike over. In Phoenix, it was Ryan Villopoto who did it and allowed James Stewart to get the win. At Dodger Stadium, Stewart repaid the favor by doing the same thing. In Oakland, Villopoto again lost the front end allowing Stewart to get by him for the lead. The two riders have swapped wins thus far this season and, potentially could the rest of the season.

Supercross season is now in full swing. As we look back at the last Saturday's inaugural supercross event at Dodger Stadium, we have learned a lot of things about those running out front, and those who are the also-rans. Both classes have provided tons of excitement and more than a little drama. Here is a look back at Saturday's Supercross and five things I learned:
1. For average fans, and even some knowledgeable fans, and exponential growth, I'd like to see ESPN's involvement in the sport again.
Nothing against all the TV coverage and production companies and networks involved since ESPN was last involved back in the early 2000's, but ESPN has become the 'de facto' sports network in the USA. Even after all these years, fans still ask "What time will the race be on ESPN?" And what's the even bigger benefit for all involved? SportsCenter. If Supercross could have highlights on ESPN's SportsCenter ? it will make a big difference in how the sport is perceived and bring it to sports fans that have never heard of supercross.

Pink-themed supercross race to support the fight against breast cancer
Courtesy Feld Motorsports-Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, heads to Anaheim's Angel Stadium this Saturday for its second annual PINK themed race in support of finding a cure for breast cancer. The PINK supercross race will help fund the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure 60-mile walk. With the season four races in, San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart has assumed control of the points lead in the Supercross class with a win last weekend, while Pro Circuit/Monster Energy/Kawasaki's Broc Tickle earned his first win in the Western Regional Supercross Lites class, which puts him one point behind the division leader.

Last weekend before 44,394 fans at a rainy Oakland Coliseum, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto opened the main event by capturing the holeshot. Leading through two laps, Villopoto went down and lost his position to Stewart. Unfazed by a series of hard crashes earlier in the day, Stewart controlled this lead for the remaining 18 laps, registering his second victory of the season. This victory also moved Stewart into first place in the standings with a two point lead over Villopoto.

Rick Johnson is a seven time AMA Motocross and Supercross Champion. These are his thoughts on the upcoming 2011 AMA / FIM Supercross Series.
Depending on how healthy riders stay during the season, Supercross 2011 could be an incredibly awesome year.
Of course, we all say that every year, but this year could be something special - if most stay healthy.
As I go down a list of riders, my top pick is defending AMA Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey.
Do I think Ryan will dominate Supercross the way he did outdoor MX in 2010? No, but after watching Ryan over the past few years, and especially at the MX of Nations in Italy in 2009, I've seen his confidence go up and up. Each time out, he gets a little faster, a little stronger, and smarter.
