Effective Braking for Faster Cornering

Everyone can go fast by hold the throttle pinned on the straights, but it?s when it comes time to slow down that separates the pros from the amateurs.  Next time you are at your local track, watch the fast guys around the track; they are either on the gas or braking.  Slower riders tend to [...]

Have you ever?

…Imagined you are looking down from above at your bike as it moves down the highway, giving you a sense of how small you really are in the world? …Imagined a particular soundtrack playing along with the above ?movie scene?? …Happily recalled days on the bike that were terrifying at the time, but appreciate them [...]

Marvin Musquin update - hand injury - send him a Get Well Message

From Marvin, Mathilde, and their website Marvin-Musquin.com ...

The day started good in Wortham, Texas for the Freestone National Motocross. Marvin was awarded by his "Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award" from Hangtown MX during the riders meeting. Then, Marvin was sixth in first 250 MX Lites practice. In the second practice, Marvin was quickest. That put him up to fourth for the entry list in first race.

Marvin missed the holeshot by only a bit in the first race, Justin Barcia was leading in the first corner, Marvin was second. Then, Barcia crashed right in front of Marvin. Marvin couldn't avoid him. A big collision, including that Barcia's bike hit Marvin in the head. The worst result - Marvin's hand is injured.

Marvin says "I finally had a good start. In that corner, Barcia was in front of me, and I was on his outside. I came back to the inside to close the door on the guy behind me. Barcia crashed and I couldn't avoid him. His wheel hit me, hurt me, and threw me. I wanted to restart, but then I could feel something was wrong with my hand. It felt bad."

Marvin was helped immediately by the Asterisk Medical Team. He had an X-ray there at the track. And there we found out that his thumb is broken. Marvin was then transferred to a hospital in Dallas, where they did more exams.

The ending verdict, a severe break of his thumb, and three other bones broken in his hand.

Marvin is back in California Sunday morning, and will have surgery this afternoon.

Marvin concludes "I watched again the action in my head, but I know it's not my fault. It's a race accident. I felt really good, my speed and my physical condition was really good. Now I have to take a break. I will continue my physical training. I will restart from here as soon as my hand will permit it. I want to thank everyone who supports me and sends me messages."

More information will come after the surgery.

You can send Marvin a get well message below either thru your Supercross.com Community log in, or Facebook.

Get well soon Marvin!

Kevin Windham Sparkles in Emerald City, Eli Tomac Gains Big Ground in Lites West

It was good to be a GEICO Honda rider during the 15th round of Supercross in Seattle. Fan favorite Kevin Windham and teammate Eli Tomac both earned runner-up finishes under the Saturday night lights at Qwest Field, Windham on his 450cc ride and Tomac on his 250cc Lites bike. Windham, who won Seattle last season, always [...]

Behind the scenes: Team USA for 2010 Motocross of Nations - together for the first time

I was back out at Pala Raceway for something very special. I had already been there for four days for the Finale of the 2010 AMA MX season and the Awards Banquet.

But, as I mentioned, this was something special - the first official get together of Team USA for the 2010 Motocross of Nations. Team Manager Roger De Coster, racers Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short, Trey Canard, and all the support staff needed for an effort like this.

I felt very privileged to be invited to such an event. I soon came to realize that the most unique and moving part of the day was seeing the look of real happiness, the feeling of true honor, and the comraderie for each person involved, as 'The Team' came together for the first time. It was contagious. They seem to be a real 'team' already, working together well, and have great things to say about each other. Again, it was contagious!
